In the 1990s, the media in the U.S. was not 99% controlled as it is now. There was still some freedom to report on Catholic or Christian events. That was likely the last decade in the U.S. that an apparition could be objectively reported on by the media. Below is a very short video from the official Conyers website on the interest and openness to Conyers present then.

It was akin to a Medjugorje in America. There were huge crowds of believers going on pilgrimage to Conyers. Mrs. Fowler was simple and unpretentious like most messengers. Of the people who helped her get the word out, Mrs. Fowler eventually distanced herself. She eventually disassociated from them in general, which likely stemmed from disagreements. This lack of unity gave people a poor but unfair impression. I do not know the exact details, but it seems that tension led to some losing interest in this amazing private revelation; another possible reason is that more and more messengers around the world were popping up (most inauthentic but some authentic) and the unfortunate phenomenon of “chasing after visionaries” by some had begun... The messages from Jesus and “Our Loving Mother” to Mrs. Fowler were all received in that decade. One of her biggest supporters has since been in charge of the Conyers website and app, which are very well done. There are no substantial reasons to doubt Conyers' authenticity. This private revelation has never been condemned.

Without further ado, here is the link to a great video:
